Testimonials
"Dear, dear, Evelyn,
April 27, 2014 the front doorbell rang and you entered my home and my life.
One month after Whipple surgery, you were assigned to daily dress an open, draining incision and take my vitals. Your expert nursing skills handled those tasks flawlessly. Five days a week for nearly eight months you checked temperature, pulse, blood pressure, then packed and re-bandaged the slow-healing incision.
There is a huge backstory to the routine, nursing skills you brought to me for those eight months. The reports you filed for 34 weeks showed consistent physical healing and continued good numbers substantiating no infection and acceptable blood pressure. But there are no reports or evidence to the enormous emotional and psychological skills you provided daily.
You deftly led and guided me through five months of chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer. This was all a new adventure for me. I use the word adventure because you made it that. You refused to allow me to speak a negative word and strongly suggested I not think a negative thought. You shared your belief in positivity and encouraged me daily to focus on healing. Your energy was contagious. You and I both knew the horrible statistics for pancreatic cancer, but you absolutely refused to let me go to that negative, medical reality. Rather, you brought stories, readings and suggested media of miracles and the rare remission stories. You somehow recognized the small (and often building) stresses as I returned to work and a social life post-surgery. You daily checked and worked very hard to balance my emotional health…believing that to be as important as, and to, my physical health. And it was.
You laughed, cried and hugged me to health. Today I am in remission. CAT scans, MRIs, blood tests can not find any evidence of cancer. I am told there are many reasons for the remission: The Whipple surgeon, the facility where it was performed, an excellent oncologist, five months of uninterrupted chemo and a positive attitude.
The last contributor to my remission is attributed to you, Evelyn. More importantly, I learned several life skills from you that are making my post-cancer adventure truly amazing. Credit to you that I am avoiding negative people (still chuckle when I think of your wonderful story that we drive our own bus and can determine what passengers are allowed to ride), work at managing stress situations and very slowly I am learning to say no…or at least, maybe.
I thank you with heartfelt, enormous gratitude.
Love,
Maureen"

“Evelyn and I met after my father's death. She helped me to cope with relationships I had lost and formed. I have tried to see other therapists both before and after Evelyn, and they could not relate to me the way Evelyn did. Although she is around the age of my mother, I can talk to her like a teenage girl and never feel like she is judging what I say or how I act. Her ability to connect with people despite age difference has allowed her to have a similar relationship with my brother.
She taught me many useful methods to relax and deal with life's stress. She is very wise, but is always looking to learn something, especially from her patients. She tries to teach and be taught and forms friendships with her patients, which is very uncommon, but comforting. Anyone who knows Evelyn would agree that she is a genuinely wonderful woman and very gifted and successful in her career.”
